1/2 cup sugar

1 cup molasses

1/2 cup shortening

1 egg

1 cup water

Cream shortening, sugar, egg, and molasses. Add 2 level cups of flour. Put 1/2 tsp cinmamon, 1/4 tsp of cloves, 1/2 tsp of nutmeg, and a dash of salt. Mix together with flour. Then add 2 tsp of soda in hot water. Mix all together and beat well. Cook 1 hour at 350.
